Sandy’s story begins in a cold shelter kennel, where the walls were bare, the floor was hard, and her tired body showed every sign of a life no dog should ever have to survive. She was only one year old, an American Bulldog mix with soft eyes hidden behind pain, fear, and severe skin inflammation. At first glance, anyone could see that Sandy had been through something heartbreaking. Her skin was raw and irritated from sarcoptic mange, her body looked exhausted, and even the simplest touch seemed to remind her of everything she had endured.

Her skin is severely inflamed and she appears to have sarcoptic mange, which is causing relentless itching. Because of the blood, infection, and how much pain she is in, I cannot safely temperament test her with other dogs right now. It would not be fair to put another dog in her face when she can barely see and is suffering like this. When I first tried to leash her she was understandably terrified. With her vision limited and her body hurting, the leash initially scared her, but I needed to get her out of the kennel to try to help her. Once she came out she completely melted. She was incredibly loving and just wanted to curl up in my lap and be held. Sandy needs a 501c3 rescue tag and a committed foster who can take over once she leaves whatever hospital she is sent to. She will need medical care, time to heal, and someone patient who understands she is scared because she is in pain.
